Hey friends – I’m back with another 10 year anniversary trip recap!

I was thinking today would be my final recap, but I have so many pictures that I decided to give it two more posts. Next week on Tuesday I’ll share the finale post, which will be all about our day spent in Camden, Maine.

As for today, it’s featuring the day of the trip where we had some gross weather, which actually ended up leading to some really cool hikes because the sea was so beautiful and stormy!

If you missed the previous Maine anniversary trip recap posts, check those out first:

  • Anniversary Trip Food Highlights
  • Hiking the Beehive + Gorham Mountain
  • Hiking the Giant Slide in Acadia

When we woke up on Friday morning of our trip, there were stormy skies and seas.

A question that I get often from my nutrition clients, especially those who are runners, is: “How much protein should I eat?”

If you’ve ever questioned if you’re consuming enough protein as a runner, read on to learn the basics about protein, why you need more protein as an athlete, protein intake recommendations for the casual athlete (like me right now!) up to serious endurance/ultra runners, and my recent favorite protein-rich snack option.

As an intuitive eating dietitian who is also a runner, a common question I get is whether or not intuitive eating for runners is possible. The short answer: absolutely!

It can be really easy to get caught up in the diet culture mentality, especially as a runner.

Running into the Holiday Spirit https://www.fannetasticfood.com/running-into-the-holiday-spirit/ https://www.fannetasticfood.com/running-into-the-holiday-spirit/#comments Fri, 20 Dec 2019 13:39:05 +0000 https://www.fannetasticfood.com/?p=63329 Running into the Holiday Spirit

On Wednesday night, something unusual happened: I went for a run!

I’m NOT an evening workout person – I can occasionally rally for an evening yoga class, but running in particular is really tough for me to motivate in the evenings, unless there’s something extra awesome going on, like: my annual-ish DC Christmas Tree light run with my friend Sokphal!

Another race is in the books!

Matt and I ran the Marine Corps 10k together yesterday and had a soggy but fun time out there.

I was hoping the weather forecast would improve, but sadly when our alarm went off and we peeked outside it was raining.

On Saturday, Matt and I made our return to one of our absolute favorite hikes: Old Rag Mountain in Shenandoah National Park!

Matt and I consider Old Rag Mountain to be one of “our spots” – it was one of our favorite hikes to do when we were still dating, so much so that we got engaged on the top of it back in October of 2011!

Matt, Riese and I had a lot of fun in Sewickley, PA (outside Pittsburgh) this past weekend!

As I mentioned in Friday’s blog post, we drove up on Thursday afternoon to surprise Matt’s dad for his birthday, and enjoyed a weekend of family time + lots of time with friends who live in the area.

I have a billion photos from the weekend so I’m going to break the recap up into two posts.

We have breakfast, hang out around the house, and then get ready and take Freyja (the dog) for a walk before heading off to a playground or a baby gymnastics class or a playdate – or before our sitter arrives on Mondays and Wednesdays so I can crush some work.

I ran my second postpartum race (the first was the Marine Corps 10k in the fall), the Fountainhead 10k-ish trail race, run by EX2 Adventures, this weekend!

For the past year, I’ve settled into a good weekly routine of 1 run (on the weekend – and occasionally a second shorter midweek run but not usually), 2 to 3 yoga classes, and 1 boot camp per week.

That’s felt like a really good balance for me – I used to run 3 days per week before I got pregnant, and do 1 to 2 boot camps and 1 yoga class, but amping up the yoga frequency and keeping the running casual has just felt really right for me so far in my mom life.

My running buddies and I have a favorite route we call “the bridge loop.”

It’s gorgeous, taking us along the river in both DC and Virginia, crossing over the Key Bridge and the 14th Street Bridge and enjoying lots of pretty views of the monuments and the water.
